Contemplative Toys

My desire to create work that creates a sense of intimacy and connection led me to create the 'Contemplative Toys' collection. After casting the first Wishing Stars™, I discovered they were delightful to spin, thus becoming my first spinning toys; art to play with. The Wishing Stars were inspired from a trip into the wilderness of the North Cascades NP. They reflect the experience of magic and joy I felt there watching the Perseids meteor showers.

Cast in lead crystal from hand carved wax originals and polished by hand, they have a rounded surface on the bottom that easily spins. They fit in the palm of your hand much like a wishing stone. Their weight in crystal gives them a natural momentum without using an axis to initiate the spin. Ancient art depicts spinning tops of all kinds, they are one of the oldest toys found in archaeological sites and are also used for prophecy. Wishing Stars™ represent the sacred symbol of The Flower of Life which contains the mathematical building blocks of the universe and illustrates the connectedness and oneness of spirit.

The Wishing Stars™ connect many collectors; family, friends, teachers, and many others, around the world in a dynamic constellation. They have been available at galleries, museums, charitable and award events. They are currently available at the Orcas Artworks gallery on Orcas island.

The Wishing Stars™ are available in 5 sizes:  2.25", 2", 1.75", 1.5” and 1” in diameter.
