Inspired from being immersed in the beauty of Patos Island, San Juan Islands National Monument. The island is only accessible by boat. Magical trees tower over the shoreline of the island while kelp beds glisten and stream with the tide close to shore alluding to their mystery just below the surface. The tidal flow and sound of the rip tides that continuously encircle the island creates the feeling of being deeply immersed in earth’s forces. In my boat, while drifting with the tidal currents that parallel the shore, I hear the sweetness of a multitude of birds singing the songs of the land. Oyster catchers, eagles, cormorants, herons, and many other wild creatures create a symphony with the tide rip roar. While immersed in this environment I return to my true nature, humbled.
